Houston Loves Football
Here in Texas, we take our football very seriously. More than a few of our 5A high school teams are on par, or better, than more than a few college teams. We eat, breathe, and sleep football. It wasn’t a big surprise to us when Houston was chosen to host Super Bowl LI in 2017. It looks like that won’t be the only important football game in Houston next year, though. We’re scheduled to host two of the CONCACAF Gold Cup matches on July 11th, 2017.
‘Soccer’ Vs ‘Football’
If you haven’t heard of the CONCACAF Gold Cup before, don’t be too worried. Yes, it’s football, just not the American version. It is, however, one of the world’s major soccer organization. The CONCACAF, or The Confederation of North, Central, and Caribbean Association Football, is a soccer (to the small percentage of the world that doesn’t call the game football) that occurs once every two years. Bayou City is going to be one of five Texas cities to host games during the Gold Cup tournament.
When it comes to the Gold Cup though, Houston is an esteemed alum. We’ve hosted at least one Gold Cup game during the last six tournaments. That’s at least 6 games in 12 years! And this time we’re hosting two games!
Unfortunately, though, teams have not been picked for the Houston CONCACAF Gold Cup games yet. We do know, though, that the U.S. and Mexico have been scheduled in different cities.
If things keep going the way they are, Houston could come to love soccer just as much as we love football.
