The Mustang football team was left with no uniforms, gear or equipment. They did not even have a field to practice on.
Free safety Matt Slayton said it was difficult to adjust before the season.
“It’s been hard to practice and just get up to game speed. We’re getting used to it now. Losing all our equipment we have to get used to everything new,” he said.
After a month of hardship, the Mustangs got a special treat Tuesday, a surprise visit from defensive tackle D.J. Reader and offensive lineman Nick Martin, of the Texans.
“That’s what football does, it brings everybody from every different walk of life together, it brings you together and makes you want to fight,” Reader said.
Martin and Reader brought new cleats and footballs for the team.
“It was honestly like a blessing it was a surprise. We didn’t know it was going to happen,” said Kingwood receiver Nolan Powell.
